This month we focus on the global protests around the climate talks in Copenhagen this December - and, 10 years on from Seattle,
these mobilisations could provide a similar watershed moment. So here's a chance to discuss not only what's going to happen in Copenhagen and how to get there,
but equally importantly, start organising events and actions in our localities for December.
featured films:
CLIMATE CAMP: COPENHAGEN (15:00)
We now have just 5 years to produce a plan for a transition to a carbon neutral world. As activists from the camp explain, the agreement in Copenhagen looks like
it won't just go far enough, but will be going in completely the wrong direction.
Is this the moment when lobbying governments has to end and a grassroots global social movement to save the planet really starts?
SAVE VESTAS WIND TURBINE FACTORY (18:27)
The Vestas wind turbine factory in Isle of Wight, the only one in England, is being shut down - because there's "no market" for them here.
The Government refuses to intervene. The workers decided to occupy the factory, supported by a red, black and green coalition of support.
It's now become the key dispute in the battle for green jobs. And, talking of the madness of the market -
PLYMOUTH: STOP THE NUCLEAR WASTE DUMP (22:07)
Plymouth is already where nuclear submarines are refuelled, to the detriment of local people's health. Now they've decided to decommission nuclear vessels
here too - but as the dock is privatised, they've decided the "most profitable" solution is to saw up the nuclear core reactors into little pieces, and put them in warehouses
in the centre of a population of 250,000. If Trident was scrapped, these docks could provide 1,000s of green jobs producing renewable energy equipment, with very little extra investment.
A national demonstration has been called in Plymouth for October 31st - they need as many people as possible down there to stop this horrific plan.
PLUS: TOWER HAMLETS COLLEGE ALL OUT STRIKE - VICTORY! (16:00)
Already this year we've seen the return of factory occupations to Britain. Now FE lecturers at Tower Hamlets college have reintroduced one of our most powerful
weapons - the all-out indefinite strike - and after a month, have just won an amazing victory to stop cuts in jobs and courses, and to oppose the privatisation of education.
This is already sending shockwaves through the country - to accompany the film, Tower Hamlets strikers will be present to explain how they did it.
All these films feature on the latest issue of Reel News, available at the screenings, or online from Tuesday October 20th (www.reelnews.co.uk). Come along and join in the discussion - as always, this is also an open forum to raise
any other issues you're involved in - and hopefully we can come up with some practical activities by the end of the night.
'How to be green? Many people have asked us this important question. It's really very simple and requires no expert knowledge or complex skills. Here's the answer. Consume less. Share more. Enjoy life.' Penny Kemp and Derek Wall
